CHALLENGE

Key engineering challenges

Combining core networking/routing functionality with a device-provisioning and IoT-management layer on the same hardware required careful attention to network security and isolation between these responsibilities. Building provisioning flows reliable enough to onboard varied home sensors without requiring technical know-how from end users was the other major thread of work.

Why this approach

Consolidating routing and sensor management into a single gateway was the client's core product thesis — replacing per-device apps and separate hubs with one unified platform — so the architecture was built around that consolidation from the start rather than bolting sensor management onto an existing router design.
