The router/gateway combines networking hardware with firmware that manages both its core routing/networking function and a device-provisioning and monitoring layer for distributed home sensors, exposed to users through a mobile app and backed by cloud services.
The gateway handles local network traffic and device provisioning directly, while sensor telemetry and device state sync to the cloud to support remote monitoring and the unified mobile app experience; provisioning flows are designed to onboard new sensors into the home network with minimal manual configuration.
Combining core networking/routing functionality with a device-provisioning and IoT-management layer on the same hardware required careful attention to network security and isolation between these responsibilities. Building provisioning flows reliable enough to onboard varied home sensors without requiring technical know-how from end users was the other major thread of work.
